Reference range is an essential component of a clinical blood count report. This is of particular importance in the paediatric age group due to developmental changes of many blood cell parameters associated with age. On the other hand, there are major hurdles in the establishment of reference ranges in clinical laboratories. The most difficult task is the recruitment of good quality reference subjects and samples for testing. Clinical laboratories have used different methods to provide reference ranges in paediatric blood count reports. In this session, we will share experience and explore possible solutions to this perennial concern.
